Before we go deeper discussing this topic, it would be honest to state that there really is no cure for snoring. All the products available in the market help snorers based on the cause and this differs from individual to individual. Snoring is caused by various factors, but the common pathway is the narrowing of airways which cause the air passing through to vibrate, producing the popular irritating sound called snoring.

This tackle snoring that is caused by posture. These cause the snorers to sleep on their sides. It follows the premise that when we sleep flat on our backs, the muscles surrounding our throats relax and narrow the airway. Obviously though, anti-snoring pillows will not work for snoring caused by other factors. Other snoring remedies will have to be sought for.

These are for snoring that is caused by the narrowing of the nasal canal mostly because of congestion. Disease conditions that affect the nose such as sinusitis, rhinitis and other allergies lead to nasal congestion, and this ultimately leads to snoring. Nasal sprays help relieve this. They keep the nasal canal patent as the person sleeps. Again, other causes of snoring may not be remedied by this.

These tackle snoring caused by an open mouth during sleep. They work by holding the chin up through the night, making sur the mouth is shut. It is particularly helpful, but it may be discomforting especially if it is too tight or could slip off during turning over if it is too loose. Some also cover up the entire mouth and could be very dangerous in that it could lead to choking

These are also referred to as snoring mouthpieces. There are two types; the tongue retaining devices and the jaw retaining devices. The former prevents the tongue from falling backwards and obstructing the airway while the latter helps with jaws that malposition during sleep and obstruct the airway too. A very important requirement for using the tongue retainer is that you must be able to use your nose to breath. That is, the nose must be patent with no element of obstruction or congestion. These devices reduce upper airway collapse. It works by fixing the lower jaw forward, such that the muscles of the upper airway are taut, and the airway is patent, allowing sufficient air to pass through, reducing vibrations and invariably reducing snoring. They are better than continuous positive airway pressure devices because they are less invasive and quiet. They are not recommended however for people that use dentures or have uneven teeth.

Yet again, it is worth repeating that snoring has different causes, and there is no one treatment option that fits all. You will have to know what exactly causes your snoring and handle it appropriately. The knowledge of the above devices however enlightens you and makes you in the perfect position to know what has the potential for working well for you.
